Halfway along the Golden Mile, about as far from Marbella as Puerto Banús, you’ll find Puente Romano, a veritable enclave of Michelin-star restaurants, and botanical gardens. It’s a five-star resort, albeit one that feels remarkably like a village, lined with laid-back suites and grandiose villas. The most impressive is Villa Romane; a tall, lean example of Andalucia’s new wave of minimalist modern architecture, surrounded by tropical trees, less than 50 metres from the beach (quite literally over the road from the legendary Sea Grill restaurant).
