The Yellow Emperor ruled over a vast swath of northern China in the 27th century BCE,giving rise to the Longshan or dragon mountain culture, famous for its exquisite polished black pottery. The Yellow Emperor had four wives and at least 25 children, regarded as the progenitors of the entire Han ethnic group, making up over 90 % of the population of China and Taiwan. Celebrated as a master of the occult arts, the Yellow Emperor also lay the bases for neigong and acupuncture, and even invented an early form of football. His personal advisor Cangjie created the earliest form of Chinese writing, while the Yellow Emperor's wife Leizu invented sericulture.
