Safety first! Never work on live electrical wiring! Always make sure to turn off the circuit breaker before you do any electrical work!

An old Intermatic T101 timer started to slow down and skip the set ON and OFF times. In this particular case, a tiny plastic gear attached to the rotor of the timer's motor had worn out, broken teeth. I used another cheap timer of the same Intermatic brand to get a replacement gear. It was a quick and cheap project that put the broken timer back in service. The same procedure applies to the entire Intermatic T100 series: T102, T103, T104, T105, or T106.
If I planned to replace the entire timer, I would consider one that includes "astronomical" or "sunrise/sunset" auto option, with a back up battery for power failures. It will automatically adjust the ON OFF times according to your local daylight. For example: Honeywell programmable Indoor and Outdoor Timer with Solar timetable, (TI044) - currently sold for around $80
