Title: Goal obstructiveness and uncertainty relate to differential emotion ratings, behaviour and brain activity.
Session: Oral Session

Abstract: The nature of emotions and their neural underpinnings remain debated. Here we study whether the framework of appraisal theories provides a clearer account for the differentiation of emotional states and their functional organisation in the brain. Appraisal theories such as the component process model [1] propose that the perception and evaluation of events (appraisal) is the key to eliciting the range of emotions we experience. Appraisals trigger changes in behaviour, physiology, and brain activity patterns. Building on a previous study [2], we manipulated two appraisals: goal obstructiveness and uncertainty.
