This is a video for all professors and researchers who did not get tenure.
First of all, I don’t know how you feel right now. I was fortunate enough to get tenure, but it was difficult of an enough experience that it did rock me for about a year or so. I felt very uncertain and emotional - I still don’t like the feeling of being evaluated. I also feel that I don’t deserve tenure, but I guess many people feel like that when they get tenure.
However, I have been thinking about how to deal with not getting tenure, as there are many people that try to get a PhD or try to get tenure and don’t get it.
Here is what I have done, and you might want to think about since you did not get tenure.
1. Invest in creating community around yourself. If you have been not attending a religious organization, think about joining one. If a religious organization is not your play, think of finding a community and support group.
2. Consider going to a therapist to talk about the process and how you feel. This is extremely important for you, and I would highly advise that you talk to someone.
3. Realize that the tenure decision is not a reflection on just your own performance - there are many factors at play beyond how you perform. You might be the top performer in your field, but you still may not get tenure at some places. Some schools just have a policy of not tenuring. The form and function of the decision process can matter to the tenure decision as well.
4. Invest in why you are you, and that it’s ok to be you. You are not imperfect and problematic - you are functioning within a structure that might not recognize your talents.
5. Your next role will likely be better than what you correctly have. You will like find a position that betters suits you. You will likely make more money. People will respect you more. The benefits of the next job far outweigh where you currently are.
6. Keep moving forward - you got this, and you can keep going!

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
[ Ссылка ]: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
