The Walk Again Neurorehabilitation Protocol: a BMI-based clinical application to induce partial neurological recovery in spinal cord injury patients.
Clinical applications of BMI/BCI include the restoration of communication/language, recovery of sensory-motor functions in the patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) and improvement of neurological functions in stroke patients. We distinguish two aspects of such a rehabilitation: an assistive approach, that helps the subject to regain function through compensatory pathways, and a recovery approach that induces the restoration of the originally damaged neurological circuit.
