Finally! I filmed a Japanese Mikoshi Festival! But it WASN'T in Nagano. This time we travel to Matsumoto with our group of Japanese festival friends (addicts) to help out in THEIR Fall Mikoshi festival.
A Mikoshi is a small shrine or 山車 (だし dashi), which means parade float in Japanese. The "kami" or "god" from the area's main shrine is usually placed INTO the Mikoshi, and then carried around town. The festival in Matsumoto was a normal Mikoshi Fall festival where we just carried the Mikoshi around the town. In Nagano City there are some very unique things we also do. You'll have to wait to see those until I can film them NEXT year.
This お神輿(おみこし or Omikoshi) was pretty heavy (though not as heavy as the Higashi machi Omikoshi back in Nagano city), but there were PLENTY of people to help carry it, so it was a pretty laidback day! Long though!
I hope you enjoy!
