Historically, Bendigo is one of the richest alluvial gold fields in the world. However, gold exploration there woke up again only a few years ago, since modern exploration methods arised, which opened new chances and capital became available again. In fact, exploration companies have now been trying to find the sources of this alluvial gold and prioritise drillings at depth. Kalamzoo's neighbour, Kirkland Lake, started its operation there some years ago.
