Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Debbie McGee set for CRIPPLING disappointment amid shock news
STRICTLY COME DANCING favourite Debbie McGee has been toppled from her frontrunner position by a surprising dark horse.
The 59-year-old former magician's assistant has been hotly tipped to take home the coveted Glitterball trophy for weeks now, but it appears that Joe McFadden, 41, is set to steal the victory from her fingertips.
The Holby City actor wowed the judging panel Saturday night with his "risky" performance alongside professional dance partner Katya Jones, 28.
While the pair suffered from an awkward mistake at one stage during the powerful Argentine Tango, their perfectly executed never-before-seen closing move appeared to cement their position in this week's final on the BBC series.
The routine had the couple whipping across the ballroom dance floor to Rag 'n' Bone Man's smash hit Human, leading head judge Shirley Ballas, 57, to reiterate her earlier prediction about Joe's future on the show.
Despite Debbie McGee's valiant efforts to knock it out of the park with her perfectionist partner Giovanni Pernice, 27, she couldn't hide her continued frustration with his choreography.
When presenter Claudia Winkleman, 45, asked the star if she felt he'd put her under too much pressure, Debbie admitted: "It did yes, because he's 27 and I'm heading for 60, so keeping up with him was very difficult."
"You didn't slow it down," Claudia then scolded Giovanni. "She said in the training room, 'I'm 59, go slower!'"
However, the Strictly Come Dancing pro claimed it "didn't matter", because his protégée had performed "even better" than him in their energetic Jive.
As fans await the news of this year's winner, Joe's odds to sweep the trophy may only get shorter as the days go on.
Betting shop Coral confirmed: "Debbie has been the favourite for the past few weeks at 5/4, however, it looks like the public are right behind Joe who has never been in the bottom two.
"At the start of the series Joe was 12/1 but he has improved with every week and his odds have shortened with every performance."
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
