At an event at Hallett back in March, I went thru T7 at 85 mph when my right real wheel broke. The wheel went underneath the car, sending it up in the air. Thankfully it didn’t flip and I didn’t hit anything. The wheel ended up hitting the corner worker station, but luckily it didn’t hit the corner marshal.
The incident bent my rear subframe, broke the rear brake rotor, mangled the exhaust, bent the passenger tie rod and caused some body work damage. However, i’m happy to report i’ve since fixed the car, and it’s back on track. Also installed a new, full containment seat after seeing how much I rag dolled it inside the car.
This was one of those things that I don’t think could happen to me until it did. Use this as a friendly reminder to inspect your wheels. Stay safe out there.
