BFBS interview on 16 May 2007 at the Victory Services Club.
During its Centenary year the Club launched an appeal to raise £5 million to improve the Old Club House.
An overhaul in the Old Club House Wing was long overdue, it was essential to raise the standards to a level that our current and ex-members of the Armed Forces and their families deserve. The wing was built in 1906 and has not been updated since the early 1950s. The Old Club House now has 75 rooms most of which are air conditioned and en suite. Three of the four floors have been refurbished and equipped for the disabled.
We want to demonstrate to the Armed Forces community - the Veterans and the Serving Armed Forces - how much we value and admire their professionalism by providing them with a national centre for reunions, rest and recuperation.
This refurbishment enabled the Club to support more servicemen and women who require a relaxing environment for R&R.
Major General Sir Richard Dannett (Chef of The General Staff) supported the initiative Haven for Heroes which offers substantial discounts to those returning on R&R or post operational tour leave from those theatres
