This video shows viewers when they might be able to return to sport after a high ankle sprain (syndesmosis injury). We look at the time it takes to return to sport-specific rehab, time to return to training, and time to return to an official match. This video particularly focuses on return to sport for professional soccers players after surgery for high ankle sprains (syndesmosis injuries).
Syndesmosis Injury, otherwise known as a high ankle sprain, is common in contact sports. Syndesmosis injuries are commonly missed, but make up about 25% of ankle sprains suffered in contact sports. Syndesmosis injury treatment can be straightforward if picked up early, however if the injury is missed, there can be long-term consequences.
The figures in this video are derived from the following research paper:
D'Hooghe P, Grassi A, Alkhelaifi K, Calder J, Baltes TPA, Zaffagnini S, Ekstrand J.
