I ended up caving and buying the Hunter pack the other day, and I jumped into the standard Stalker-7D variant so I could claim the event prizes. I didn't want to spend anything on it cuz I was about to sell it right after the event was over, but I actually ended up doing very well in it without having to spend a C-Bill-dime. This mech is super fun to play with it's high mounts, and good hitbox geometry alone, but on top of that, this is the fastest stalker variant available. On the STK-7D(S) variant, I do run Endo-steel and a larger engine, but again, I was gonna sell this one right after. With the combination of Large and ER Medium Lasers, this thing packs one heck of a punch, and with 21 heatsinks you can out-do almost any opponent's DPS. I was still getting used to the mech, so I was very cautious about overheating, but if I had alpha'd more instead of splitting up my fire, I know I could've done even better. But still, 720 damage is nothing to scoff at!

MechWarrior online is a free to play (F2P) Player vs. Player (PvP) game where you pilot gigantic Battlemechs with massively destructive weaponry. Most gameplay is centered around the 12 vs 12 quickplay format with no respawns, but there are other game modes such as Faction Play where your aim is to raid the enemy base and destroy 4 waves (respawns) of the opposition. There is also the 1v1 Solaris7 game mode that nobody ever plays, but is a fun time when you just want to drop in and fight your friends and still get some c-bills out of it.
There are some purchases to make with real money in game such as Hero mechs and premium time, but the game often has events that let F2P players get plenty of premium content.
