A week after the Super Bowl, which closed the American football season, five league players came to visit Rambam as part of a tour of Israel.
The five players, Delanie Walker of the Tennessee Titans; Mychal Kendricks of the Philadelphia Eagles; Cameron Jordan of the New Orleans Saints; Calais Campbell of the Arizona Cardinals; and Dan Williams of the Oakland Raiders, toured the Ruth Rappaport Children’s Hospital and med hospitalized children from Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Gaza, and Jordan, as well as medical, paramedical and support staff. The visitors also met with Professor Karl Skorecki, the director of Medical and Research Development at Rambam and a world-renowned genetic researcher. Professor Skorecki told the group about research relating to DNA and kidney disease among African Americans and Latinos.
The visit was organized by Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs and Public Relations in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism. During their stay in the country, the football players also toured Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, Christian holy sites throughout the country, and Yad Vashem. The players also met with members of the African-Hebrew-Israelite community in Dimona.
