In this video from episode 60 of the #CircularEconomyShow, we learn more about how both Growing Communities & Sitopia are feeding the people of London.
Growing Communities feed over 6,000 people weekly with vegetable boxes sourced from 25 Hackney, Dagenham, Kent and Essex farms. Thanks to their startup program, their help craft similar schemes across the UK, all of which have come together to form "The Better Food Traders Network". The key focus is linking farmers that focus on regenerative farming with enterprises to sell their food locally.
Sitopia Farms is a modern urban farm in London that grows a wide variety of vegetables, including strains that have almost disappeared. Two core principles govern the farm
- Organic, meaning no pesticides or herbicides
- No dig, minimal soil disruption
These regenerative agricultural techniques ensure they are being sustainable and ecologically minded to benefit our future.
