Kenya will lobby for a total ban on trade in ivory and its products at the 17th meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species CITES in Johannesburg, South Africa later this year. Speaking when he opened the inaugural Giant Club Summit, one of the biggest government-led conservation conferences in Africa, the president stressed the need to enlist the support of friends and partners across the globe in Kenya's fight against total ban on ivory trade. The summit comes just one day before Kenya burns one of the biggest stockpiles of ivory in the country’s history.
