FAO has received a 'Geospatial World Excellence Award 2016' for its Agriculture Stress Index System (ASIS), a tool for monitoring agriculture drought globally. The tool was developed through an inter-divisional collaboration involving four colleagues from the Climate and Environment Division (NRC) and the Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) group in the Trade and Markets Division (EST).
As scientific and technical developer of ASIS, VITO-Remote Sensing closely collaborates with FAO since the start in 2012. In this context, representatives of VITO (Steven Krekels and Bart Deronde) received the award at the World Trade Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
