Condition - 90% (not counted in the Average Guy Hi-Fi score)
Some normal wear but in near perfect condition overall. Gloss cabinets are extremely hard to keep in mint condition but this set is pretty close.
Quality - 8.0
These are very solidly built, feel beefier than the original Radius 90 speakers I had. Beautiful gloss black cabinets, quality binding posts and grill covers.
Sound - 7.5
These are wonderful sounding speakers with great highs. I was hopping for a little more bass but these sound inline with other dual 4” woofer speakers I’ve owned. A subwoofer is recommended, like usual:)
The sound is what I would describe as effortless and these will likely exceed most expectations, in smaller rooms.
MSRP Rating - 6.5
This set comes in a little over half of what the 3 Martin Logan Fresco i speakers I just reviewed but I can definitely tell you, they aren’t half the performance. These speakers perform very well for their MSRP, especially the quality of the build.
The competition is just very stiff, in this price range. With that said, $1,850 is a very reasonable price, with the brands that Monitor Audio was intending on competing with.
Aesthetics - 8.5
These are beautiful, minimalist style speakers. I just love the clean looks, these will look right at home in someone’s modern living room.
Price Paid Value - Not included in this score, since I am borrowing them.
Average Guy HiFi Rating - 30.5/40 = 76% (only 4 categories this time, since I didn’t buy them, I am borrowing them)
Final thoughts -
These are great sounding speakers and are made for those that can’t pull off, or like the look of, larger speakers.
These are a beautiful blend of form and function and when mixed with a quality subwoofer, like the Velodyne Minivee sub I just reviewed, they will meet/exceed most people’s expectations with style.
