If you’re a family practitioner and you’ve struggled to make headway in cases involving BPD, you’re not alone.
Given that mental health, alcohol, drug and housing services, emergency departments, and the justice system are disproportionately used by people with BPD, practitioners in the field often work with people with this diagnosis.
But approaches that are ordinarily effective don’t carry the same success rate when you’re working with a parent who has BPD.
The presence of BPD in one parent compromises cooperation and negotiation, which stalls positive outcomes.
The other parent is often forced to either contest or excessively accommodate, both of which have serious implications for parenting and children.
