There’s nothing quite like parenthood to make you feel inadequate. And while that’s true for parenting, it’s really true for all of us in our relationships. We often feel like we are not up to the task of loving others well or doing what God calls us to do. But in the story of Moses in Exodus 3 and 4 we found some important truths that speak into that idea. The truth is we are inadequate, but that’s ok because God is with us. That’s an idea that is central to who He is—God is (He exists) and He is for us (presently working on our behalf). He promises to mobilize His power and resources to help us when we obey, and He is merciful and patient with us even when we fail to trust Him. We need to remember that when we come to God with our honest inadequacies and doubts He responds with patience, and followers of the resurrected Jesus have access to the Holy Spirit—God’s own Empowering Presence living in us. The truth is, we aren’t strong enough or patient enough to love others well. But that’s ok, because God is. And He is with us.
