Mount Currie, British Columbia
Date: July 18, 2020
Weather: Sunny & Clear Skies. Windy at the top.
Just before the bridge, we parked our vehicles in a clearing area then hiked on the gravel road for 15 minutes leading us to the trailhead. There are quite a few forks along the gravel road, so it's easy to miss the turn off. We walked across the bridge just before where we parked. Then after about 300 meters or so, we crossed a creek with 4 logs. About 1 km from where we parked, we reached the sandwich board on the right where the trail starts. From there, we began our hike up at 8am.
Going through bushes, crossing creeks, and scrambling up, the steepness of the trail seems to never end. As we continuously gained elevation, the views became more prominent and distant mountains in the Pemberton Valley could be seen. The skies were clear and the sun was shinning which made the hike pleasant.
We stopped at the first viewpoint which was about 1/4 up where we could see far away mountains to the west. Passing the halfway point, the heat from the sun could be felt. Luckily, we were shaded by the trees along the way. We stopped for a quick snack and lunch at the 3/4 mark were we rested and amused by the alluring views of Pemberton Valley.
After re-energizing ourselves, we continued to hike along the trail for another 15 minutes where we finally reached the meadows at around 2pm. The views from the meadows is spectacular filled with greens and surrounded by mountains distance away. Lots of flat area in the meadows to setup camp and there were a few tents we saw. We continued towards the other side of the meadows until we reached another viewpoint where we chilled and soaked in the heavenly scenery.
At that moment, we had to decide whether or not to continue further up towards Mount Currie. As we were limited in time and didn't planned to camp, we made the decision to go up to the lower peak on the west side of Mount Currie. After 30 minutes of scrambling up through packed snow, loose rocks and boulders, we finally reached the lower peak where we have no words to say but WOW.
To the south, Wedge Mountain could be seen and so near. Black Tusk, Rainbow Mountain, Green Lake, Pemberton Valley and Mount Currie Community could be seen. We spent about an hour on the peak just enjoying all the scenes that Mount Currie had to offer. Although it was quite windy up there, the sun was out and the skies were clear. We began to descent down at around 5pm and got back to the parking at 9:30pm at sunset. This hike is definitely an epic and a must to spend a night or two camping in order to visit all the peaks.
