A 12-year-old Massachusetts boy visiting South Florida reeled in an 11-foot great white shark on January 17, and even got to name it.
Campbell Keenan was on a Fishing Headquarters sport fishing charter off the coast of Fort Lauderdale Tuesday when he felt something big on the line.
Videos shared by his mother, Colleen Keenan, show Campbell in a chair with a large reel strapped to his body. Without straps on the chair, others make sure to hold him in place so he doesn’t get pulled off the boat.
The family was in South Florida for Campbell’s sister’s hockey tournament, and he named the shark Jan Jan in honor of her coach, who was also on the boat.
The shark was ultimately tagged and then released.
