Today we're taking a brand new Eastman E20D, a Chinese D28 inspired dreadnought and comparing it to the real deal, a 1955 D-28 with brazilian rosewood back and sides.
Eastman has really been impressing me with their overall sound quality lately, so it was a real treat to be able to put it up against this old American workhorse.
The E20D has an Adirondack Spruce Top, Rosewood Back & Sides, and a 25.5" scale. It's handmade in Beijing, China, and sells for around $1300.
The '55 D-28 is a great example of a no-nonsense working-mans guitar, well at least in 1950.... The scarcity of Brazilian Rosewood and the desirability of old Martin guitars puts the price for one of these up in the $6000-9000 range depending on condition.
Of course there's no substitute for having the guitar in your hands and getting a feel for it, or soaking up the mojo of a 70 year old American treasure, but how do these two guitars sound? That's what we're finding out!!!
Recorded with Shure KSM32, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Logic Pro, no additional processing.
