A short documentary about the "caballito de totora," a 4,000-year-old reed watercraft used by fishermen in Peru.
The "caballito de totora" is an ancient type of boat built in Huanchaco, in the north of Peru.
The typical Peruvian surfboats are made of a watergrass type with a special plant called "totora."
It is also considered the first surfing board in the country. The "caballito de totora" was originally used by pre-Inca fishermen thousands of years ago.
They are a versatile tool to navigate the waters.
Jose Ucañan - father and son - are descendants of the Moche civilization.
They built special "caballitos" for Sofia Mulanovich, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Nadja de Col, and traveled to Lima to teach them how to surf with them.
The surfing champions changed their boards for the ancient type to test the quality of these Peruvian boats that have thousands of years of history.
