In Gaza, women and girls attend safe spaces in Khan Younis and Beit Hanoun. While the safe spaces have programs to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (#GBV), they are also fun places for women and girls to gather and enjoy activities together. Recreational programs at the safe spaces include gym classes, yoga, embroidery, arts and crafts.
 
At our safe spaces, women and girls can enjoy privacy and opportunities to express themselves, free from harm and discrimination. All are welcome to enjoy the supportive environment.
 
In addition to gaining new skills and increasing confidence, girls and women who come to our safe spaces learn that GBV includes psychological, sexual and physical harm, as well as the threat of violence, coercion, and the deprivation of freedom and rights. Staff provide individual counseling and training in addition to supplies and material support.
 
Funding and support for the women’s and girls’ safe spaces (WGSS) comes from a USAID grant under the project #Gaza Strip Health and Protection Service Delivery and Disaster Preparedness Support Program.
