We're told that creating better habits have the potential to change our lives. But where do we even begin? Creating good habits and breaking bad ones takes time and is different for every person.
In this video, I share with you 5 habit books that will help you in creating good or breaking bad habits, but most importantly I'll be sharing some key lessons from each book so you can also start using them in your life.
1. Atomic Habits, By James Clear
In the Atomic Habits, James Clear shares his 4 laws to start transforming your habits. These laws can be used to create new desirable habits but can also be reversed to break bad ones. One of my biggest takeaways from this book has been the concept of "systems thinking" when it comes to habit change.
Goals are about the results you want to achieve. Systems are about the processes that lead to those results.
2. The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson
The Slight Edge is all about turning simple daily disciplines into long-lasting powerful habits.
It's about how you can use marginal gains, those 1% incremental improvements, the tiny but consistent habits that you do on a daily basis, how you can use them to improve your business and life. Essentially the SLIGHT EDGE!
That's why we need to monitor our daily habits and align them with the life we want as opposed to the life we don't want.
3. The Power Of Habit, Charles Duhhig
To understand habits and how we can change them we need to understand the anatomy of a habit. In The Power Of Habit, Charles helps us with this by showing us that all habits can be broken down into a 3 step process known as The Habit Loop.
4. Better Than Before, By Gretchen Rubin
In Better Than Before Gretchen provides a compilation of strategies, you can experiment with to build better habits in your life.
Habit change is different for everyone, so Gretchen gives you lots of strategies to tackle them according to your personality.
5. Innercise, By John Assaraf
This book is not so much a habit-based book but rather a manual to understand the underlying organ in our body that regulates habits in the first place, i.e. our brain more specifically the Basal Ganglia!
Creating or breaking a habit is about rewiring your brain through a process known as Neuroplasticity. The more we understand our brain, and how it works the more we can understand habits and how to change them to improve our life.
...the quality of our lives often depends on the quality of our habits. With the same habits, you'll end up with the same results. But with better habits, anything is possible.
