Seahorses are NOT as difficult as many people think. A lot of the online information about keeping them is outdated, so I do hope this will help anyone thinking about setting up a new seahorse tank. I will actually set up 2 tanks on video in the very near future, but this video covers the guidelines that will help you keep seahorses successfully. There is a longer version that I will post shortly. I did my best to be straightforward in this video, with less of the pictures and detailed explaining. haha!
This video is for NEW seahorse keepers, or those researching how to set up a seahorse tank. There are many ways of doing things successfully, and the aim of this video is to start up correctly, so that a keeper CAN try new things once they understand their seahorses, and their needs. Please ask any questions in the comment section, and if you'd like to see any videos about specifics....just ask :)
Upcoming videos include: "Macroalgaes - the good, the bad and the benefits", "dwarf tank set up", "fry tank set up", "fry keeping", "how a seahorse keeper can vacation", "Live food cultures", "Buying seahorses guide" and "Who's Who - a review of the current seahorse online information and where to find the best advice"! I'm working hard to get these done! Stay tuned!!!!!
Here is a link to tank mate guidelines (but please take my advice and start with seahorses and snails! Once you obtain healthy seahorses, get them eating and happy, and learn their behaviors, you can then decide what your risk tolerance level is, and add based on that :) ALWAYS QUARANTINE! You can learn so much about individual animals by getting to know them before adding to a display. It also reduces the chance of adding a pathogen or deadly hitchhiker:

I did neglect to mention salinity, which is very important. Salinity in a seahorse tank should be 28 - 36 ppt or 1.021 - 1.027 sg. I personally have found that my seahorses are most active and happy at 1.023sg (30.5ppt). As with all saltwater creatures, keeping your parameters stable is much more important than a specific number. Avoid fluctuations, and they'll get used to your system :)
