As counting of votes began, Mamata was way ahead in West Bengal as Jayalalithaa seemed to be holding on to power in Tamil Nadu. Kerala seems a bit too close to call, while Assam seems to be in the BJP kitty at the moment. Puducherry seems set to see a new chief minister. Interestingly, BJP is making inroads into both Kerala and Bengal. According to various exit polls shown on TV channels on May 16, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala appeared to have voted for change giving BJP its first government in the northeastern state dislodging Congress which may also lose Kerala. DMK has been tipped to regain power trouncing AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.
