ABOUT THIS CONCERT
“A musical spectacle unlike anything else on North American stages” (San Francisco Chronicle), the sublime madness of Goran Bregović and his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra returned in April 2019 for this dizzying, ecstatic reprise! The trans-Balkan musical feast features Gypsy brass players and Bulgarian vocalists in a kaleidoscope of action, color and intoxicating beats. Founder of the 70s Balkan rock band Bijelo Dugme (White Button), the Bosnian guitarist gained attention for his vivid soundtrack work for over 30 movies, including the score for director Emir Kusturica’s surreal 1993 film Arizona Dream starring Johnny Depp, and many Americans first experienced Bregovic’s wild mélange in Sacha Baron Cohen’s blockbuster film Borat. This night featured music from across Bregović’s career, focusing on material from his 2020 album Karmen with a Happy End.
