It's getting colder and one frequent annoyance for drivers is when the light flashes on your dash indicating your car's tires are low on pressure. All vehicles nowadays are equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, or TPMS. This safety device is in place to let you know when your tires are below recommended air pressure so you can pull over and inspect them.
Here's why it's happening and what you can do to get it taken care of.
But when it's cold outside, your car's tires may lose some air pressure and trigger a warning, even if you don't have a leak. It's very common the first few mornings where the temperatures get cool. So what's happening? It's basic science. Temperature, volume and pressure have a direct relationship in any closed system, such as a tire. When the temperature increases, so does pressure. In turn, when the temperature goes down, you will lose some pressure.
