One of the first skills to master when you are getting into the ground up real estate game is learning how to read construction drawings. The good thing is, it's a lot simpler than it may seem.

Think about construction drawings or blueprints as the step-by-step guide to building a new house. It includes a site plan, foundation, floor plan, roof framing, elevations, sections, details, and joist / truss layouts. It also includes any notes on required building code, structural engineering, energy efficiency or any other speciality building practices that need to be followed.

The construction drawings are your roadmap for your new build. Each trade will work off of different parts of the drawings and it's your job to bring them together to facilitate that.

This set of drawings is a very in depth plan for a 24 unit apartment building. In this video, I take you through each page and show you step by step how to interpret them and what you need to know from a business builder, investor standpoint. The good thing is that if you study these plans, truly try to understand them, and then watch them come to life.. it will all start to click..
