A CORNER OF A FOREIGN FIELD THAT IS FOR EVER PHILIP : -
Three Examples Of The Power Of Communication.
Well I was to use the second part of this video, EiiR makes the world's first STD call with The Duke of Edinburgh at her side 04:17 to do an NBN send up but saw a segway to use it for Big Don's tribute to Prince Philip's 90 years upon this earth.
Example One : There I was parked in front of a console wondering which news story I could use to commemorate this milestone on You Tube & felt this lovely piece from Ian Woods from Sky News would be appropriate, couldn't resist showing a blooper from Sky News Australia though as the lead in, a most rare event & not technically a Sky News blooper at all. It features the hapless Tom Piotrowski who seemed to have had a hard day at the office, poor chap looked all at sea when Sky News babe Gemma Veness tried to alert poor Tom to the fact he was not mike'd up at the 0:18 mark. The fellow looked like a stunned mullet & too slow on the uptake, keep taking the derivatives Tom !
Example Two : Leading into the Ian Woods birthday story for Prince Philip we see Sky News sports guy Chris Roe showing the punters what's coming up on Sportsline.
Thence to Ian Woods looking like he is having a hard day at the office too, but unlike Tom, Ian's audio is top draw telling the viewer how the 10th. June is celebrated on an island in Vanuatu. 01:59 It would be lovely if those fellows in Vanuatu could write, fax, e-mail or indeed telephone Buckingham Palace & see if The Duke might come out for his 91st. Their home although looking somewhat idyllic could have the odd communication problem, but if the natives can't find the aforementioned comms devices am sure a satellite phone would do the trick.
Example Three : "Dial Trunks Yourself" this interesting archival footage, long in Big Don's collection features The Queen making the world's first STD call from Bristol to Edinburgh in 1958 accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh. Nice to hear the voice over man pointing out to Sasanachs & alike the importance of cost effective communication, am sure The Lord Provost of Edinburgh concurred with this sentiment at the 04:43 mark.
The Cambridgeshire born (need I say more) Australian Senator, Stephen Conroy should take note regarding his NBN !

Big Don has a small collection of telephones, I plug an old Bakelite in sometimes as there is nothing like a spot of rotary dialing when one is in the mood & those dulcet tones an old adapted phone gives to a modern system are pure heaven ....Many Happy Returns Sir !
