Na przełomie czerwca i lipca 1940 roku Wehrmacht zajął, a następnie przez 5 lat okupował jedyny fragment terytorium Korony Brytyjskiej – Wyspy Normandzkie (zwane również Wyspami Kanałowymi). Była to jednak szczególna forma niemieckiej okupacji, jaka nie miała miejsca w żadnym innym europejskim kraju podbitym przez III Rzeszę.
