Places in this video:
Piazza della Signoria: Piazza della Signoria is located halfway between the Duomo and the River Arno and represents, together with the Palace of the same name, the heart of Florence political life; the Square is L-shaped and is the result of different architectural interventions as well as the place where every day, thousands of tourists meet to visit the Uffizi Gallery, the Fountain of Neptune, the Loggia della Signoria and that centuries-old Palace of course.
Palazzo della Signoria: Palazzo della Signoria is also known as the Old Palace – is the Florence City Hall, a museum and one of the most visited monuments in the cradle of the Renaissance; this massive, crenellated building was completed in 1302 by Arnolfo di Cambio and is connected to Palazzo Pitti via the Vasari Corridor, an enclosed passageway that crosses the River Arno.
Church and Museum of Orsanmichele: Orsanmichele is famously known for the sculptures of saints placed in the niches or tabernacles on all four sides of the church by the various guilds of Florence. Executed between 1340 and 1602, they form a timeline of gothic and renaissance art that is perhaps unrivalled in one location. The first sculpture, of St. Stephen by Andrea Pisano, was executed in 1340 - 150 years before Columbus discovered America - the last, St. Luke by Giambologna - was completed over 260 years later.
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore: The typical Italian Gothic building, the Cathedral of Florence, is dedicated to "Santa Maria del Fiore". The church was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (c1245-1302) who considerably enlarged the existing religious structure. Finished around 1367, the Cathedral was completely covered by coloured marbles like the earlier Baptistery, except for the façade that remained unfinished and was terminated only in the 19th century.
Baptistery of Saint John: The octagonal Baptistery is decorated in Prato’s typical green and white marble. Geometric motifs cover the eight equal sides of the structure, the luminous exterior later enriched in the 16th century with the addition of statues and bas-reliefs. The three bronze doors are attributed to Andrea Pisano (south door, circa 1330), and Lorenzo Ghiberti, (north door, 1402/25 and east door, 1425/52). The east doors, displaying stories from the Old Testament, open to an unparalleled view of the Duomo defined by Michelangelo as the “Gates of Paradise.”
Basilica of San Lorenzo: San Lorenzo is one of the most significant Renaissance churches in Florence; the story of its construction witnesses and testifies to the fortunate rise of the Medici family. The basilica stands on the site of one of the oldest churches in Florence which dates to the 4th century and was rebuilt on Romanesque canons in the 11th century. The first project to enlarge the Romanesque church dates to the second decade of the 15th century: it was commissioned from Filippo Brunelleschi by Giovanni de’ Medici, father of Cosimo the Elder and founder of the Medici dynasty.

San Lorenzo market: Mercato Centrale made its debut in Florence in one of the city’s most crucial places: the first floor of the historic San Lorenzo market. It opened in the spring of 2014 to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the iron and glass architecture erected in 1874. It was designed by Giuseppe Mengoni.
