Bibhutibhusan Wildlife Sanctuary ( বিভূতিভূষণ অভয়ারণ্য ) (formerly Parmadan Forest) ( পারমাদান জঙ্গল ) is an animal sanctuary in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The forest is located about 100 km from Kolkata and 25 km from Bongaon.
Situated on the banks of the Ichamati River covering an area of 0.68 km2 it has more than 200 deer, birds, rabbit and many langurs. It also has a children's park, a small zoo and a tourist lodge of the forest department. The nearest bus stop is at Naldugari on the 92 bus route (Bongaon-Helencha-Duttafulia Route).
The sanctuary began in 1964 when 14 chital were released in the forest. In 1980, it was named "Parmadan" when it was declared a wildlife sanctuary. In 1995 it acquired its present name after the famous Bengali author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay.
The forest is located about 100 km from Kolkata and 25 km from Bongaon.
It has more than 200 deer, birds, rabbit and many langurs. You will get to see peacocks, woodpeckers, sankhacheel, nilkhantha, fultusi and many others. The Sanctuary is also an abode of monkeys, tortoise, and comprises of trees such as shishu, minjiri, tut, arjun, shimul, shishir, bamboo and many others. The river Ichamati crisscrosses the forest and a boat ride takes you to the entire Sanctuary.
From there you can hire a boat & reach to the famous " Kata Saheber Kuthi or Neel kuthi " ( কাটা সাহেবের কুঠি বা নীলকুঠি ) . It takes around 15 minute to reach there .

Best time to visit :

The forest can be visited throughout the year but it is better to avoid the forest during the rainy season as most of the parts are flooded during that monsoon months. The winters bring many birds to the forest. Hence winters months are the best time.

How to reach :

The nearest railway station is Bongaon. Local trains are available from Sealdah in Kolkata. From Bongaon you will have to take a rickshaw to Motiganj. From Motiganj take a Duttafuli bound bus and get down at Naldugri. Parmadan is about 3 kms from Naldugri. You will also get Duttafuli bound buses from Ranaghat also (20 km). By Road Parmadan is 33 km from Bongaon ( India-Bangladesh border ) and 110 km from Kolkata.

Buses: CSTC buses for Naldugri are available from Esplande Bus Terminal. From Motiganj take a Duttafuli bound bus and get down at Naldugri. Parmadan is about 3 kms from Naldugri.
