On this backpacking trip through the Gila Wilderness, I take you on a relaxing hike -- a guided wildflower identification tour of the stunning scenery of New Mexico. A perfect trip to bring a beginner or first time backpacker. We hike for 3 days and 45 miles, passing flowers, towering cliffs, and hundreds of river crossings.
---------------------------
In May of 2021, I took my cousin on a three day backpacking trip in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico. We had originally planned a four day trip, but we moved faster than expected, and after I had a run-in with some poison ivy, I was ready to get out and under a shower. We crossed the Middle Fork and West Fork of the Gila probably hundreds of times, saw thousands of tadpoles and happened upon a rattlesnake. I enjoyed taking in the abundant wildflowers and after the fact, it has been very enjoyable to go through my footage and identify the plants I didn't know of.
I will readily admit that I am no botanist, so identification may not be 100% accurate. In fact, I'm almost certain I made some mistakes. I did my best, and would be happy to hear from anyone who has more insight into any of these amazing plants.
