This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In Australia, government, NGOs and private sector spend hundreds of billion dollars per year on disadvantage, yet one in 7 people live below the poverty line. We can change this by collectivising our efforts - sharing our time, talent and resources to break the cycle of disadvantage
A disruptive purveyor of change, this charismatic Egyptian-born, Italian-Australian applies passion and tenacity to creating better outcomes for the disadvantaged. A youth activist in her teens, a former senior policy adviser to several Australian and NSW Cabinet Ministers, including the Hon. Andrew Constance, the now NSW Treasurer, and in senior roles in NGO, government and private sectors, she has spent almost 3 decades trying to break the cycle of disadvantage.
Anne-Marie Elias has a huge heart and the energy to change societal problems around inequity and disadvantage. She is the pied piper of collaboration and sees change as possible with the commitment of all.
One of Anne-Marie’s mantras is ‘it’s not that hard’. She knows that often the simplest solutions can be the best and admits that government doesn’t always get it right and that money is not always the answer.
So as government budgets get tight and the naysayers complain that its all too hard, Anne-Marie only sees opportunity. Her vehicle is The Collective – a concept that brings together business, government and the community as a whole to solve some of society’s wicked problems.
She preaches the gospel of disrupting status quo and collectivism and her influential following is growing exponentially.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
