If you want to visit Bhutan's traditional dzongs, Simtokha Dzong will be on the top of your travel list. This Dzong is located very close to the city of Thimphu.
This Dzong will be on the way to Dochula Pass and Punakha.
It is located in the Semtokha area of the Thimphu city.
At the beginning of the dzong situated on the top of a hill, there is a big prayer wheel.
By turning this wheel, Buddhist people gain virtues.
There is no entry fee for this Dzong. So, feel free to enter into the dzong.
When you enter the dzong, you will see many Buddhist Monks are learning Dzongkha language.
Actually, this dzong is one of the major learning centers for Dzongkha language.
Here, you must enjoy the religious atmosphere.
However, there is no permission to take picture inside it. So, we could not capture any video footage.
Simtokha Dzong is the oldest dzong in Bhutan, which is still remained in its original form.
It was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1629 AD. Namgyal was the founder of the united Bhutan.
The Bhutanese people come to this dzong to pay homage to their departed relatives or other purpose of worship.
If you go to Bhutan, it would not be fair to complete the tour without seeing the dzong.
