Welcome to the Altbays Show (Feat. Chloe Potae and Leo Magri)
Ed Mikaere and Awhina Mikaere
Ed Mikaere is an arborist, solo dad of three who is breaking cycles, replacing them with quality foundations for the future of Māori leaders that follow.
Ed is also an Ahi kā: someone who occupies an area left behind to maintain continuous occupation. Traditionally, if an iwi or hapū were defeated in battle and forced to retreat, a few people were often left in the hinterlands of their former lands to tend the fires of occupation. These fires were tended to keep the claim of continuous occupation while the group built up the strength to retake their former lands.
Awhina Mikaere is a cousin to Edward. She has three adult kids and is the Māori Head of Department at Glenfield College in Auckland.
Awhina is passionate about helping, and educating children, especially the Māori youth. Awhina believes in the old teachings of home and the importance of identity.
These two inspiring role models come to the Altbays Show to talk about Māori culture, education and Aotearoa and much more.
ALTBAYS Show invites awesome people to have an honest, laid-back conversation. Our platform focuses on bringing communities together to grow and thrive.
