Into The North – A WCMU Production
At the turn of the century, Little Traverse Bay area became a key destination for tourism as railroad companies began advertising a pristine haven where one could escape city life and enjoy a "rustic" experience. "Into The North"--a "postcard from the past"-- tells the story of the families who traveled by train and steamship to a summer paradise with opulent hotels, resort communities with famous guests, clean air and million dollar sunsets. This original WCMU production includes local landmarks such as Walloon Lake, Bay View, Roaring Brook and Harbor Point. The program also features hundreds of historic photographs from the era, along with interviews with Northern Michigan historians and residents, a representative from the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians describing Native American history in the area, and longtime summer residents from around Little Traverse Bay.
