Not only did 2017’s Wonder Woman revamp her image and reintroduce her to a new generation of moviegoers, but it also brought to life the hidden island of Themyscira, the birthplace of the iconic comic character.
In the comic books, it was often depicted as a segregated nation of women, where men were forbidden to go. It was originally known as Paradise Island, until it was renamed Themyscira in 1987.
Themyscira is actually an ancient Greek town, and according to Greek mythology, it was the capital city of the Amazons. To truly know a person is to understand where they came from, and if you want to know Wonder Woman better, take a look at the history of her homeland.
