"He was a very strong person and all in all a good leader for the country and I think he has tried to make a lot of positive changes in our country that were definitely very difficult for him and difficult for many people in the country. Change is always difficult and peace is never an easy road and I think that he really made a good start and I hope whoever is elected in our elections will be able to continue where he left off and not go backwards. We all want to go forward."

STORYLINE:
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon underwent emergency surgery on Saturday after an abdominal scan revealed severe damage to his digestive tract, hospital officials said.
The scan showed that blood was not reaching parts of his intestines and that his digestive tract had suffered severe damage, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Hospital officials said before the nearly four-hour surgery that his life was in danger.
It was not clear whether surgeons had been able to stabilise him. A Sharon aide said part of the prime minister's intestine had been removed.
There was mixed reaction from Israelis and Palestinians to the news, ranging from concern to criticism of his leadership.
One Israeli on the streets of Tel Aviv said people were "very concerned" about the Prime Minister's health.
