Early June 1967.
Footage of heightened security in the Enugu area on the road which linked the capital city of Nigeria's former Eastern Region (then the secessionist state of Biafra) with the Mid Western Region (then the Mid West State).
Army and Police units of the newly declared, but at the time still unrecognised Republic of Biafra carefully screened travellers on the road which was closed between 5PM and dawn.
The leader of federal Nigeria, Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon, retaliated against the declaration of Biafra on May 30th 1967, with the imposition of a bloackade as well as the freezing of the assets of the former Eastern Region.
While Gowon received renewed backing from the governors of Nigeria's states, the act of secession generated large support within the former Eastern Region. Major media outlets changed their names to "The Biafran Sun" and "Radio Biafra".
