A woman has transported her TikTok followers back to the Gilded Age revealing the haunting interior of one of America’s largest abandoned mansions.

Once home to Peter Arrell Browne Widener, one of the richest men in the US, Lynnewood Hall was forged in tragedy following the death of Browne’s wife Hannah, who died in a boating accident aboard the family’s yacht.

This was not the only maritime-related loss Peter would suffer; he later became an investor in Titanic, which tragically sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic on 15 April 1912.

He had hoped to leave the mansion to his son George Dunton Widener Sr – who tragically perished on the famous vessel alongside his son, Harry.

George's wife, Eleanor, survived but Lynnewood Hall was left to George's surviving son, Joseph.

He made the home into an incredible gallery, collecting art worth millions over the years. After his death in 1943, the task of maintaining the property became too great a burden and so it was simply left to rot.

Urban explorer Gabby, 24, from the US, recently explored the 70,000 sq ft property, thought to have been modelled on Prior Park in Bath, with her boyfriend, Sonny, 25.

She later shared a video of the couple's adventure with her 1.5 million TikTok followers, with the clip racking up 196,000 views and 29,000 likes so far.

The video opens with a view of the grand hall with its checkered marble floors and baroque velvet sofas – now hauntingly vacant – before continuing up the winding staircases, giving a maisonette-style view from the balconies.

Long winding corridors reveal a glimpse into the dozens of empty rooms that lay untouched with beds and dressers still in place, while elsewhere an empty chapel remains almost perfectly preserved – down to the renaissance-style ceiling paintings.

There's also an old school smoking room, that Gabby said still smells of cigars.

Despite the stunning interior, there are some signs of decay and vandalism – with the home reclaimed by nature and a few animals, too.

“The most shocking thing we came across, aside from the absolutely stunning original features of its architecture, was a vulture that had inhabited a small closet," she told Jam Press.

"We didn't realise it was there until we got way too close and it proceeded to lunge and hiss at us.

"Luckily we were able to avoid it and made sure to keep an eye out for any other animals inhabiting the mansion while we kept exploring.

“Something about how expansive it [the mansion] was, paired with the extreme amount of detail and beauty portrayed in its architecture, made me feel as if I was stepping back in time to another era or as if I was inside of a historic monument.”

TikTok users have been left blown away by the scenes.

"I wish I could see those art pieces in person. Oh my goodness," wrote one person.

Another user said: "Even stunning is too small a word to capture this."

Many were devastated to hear of the house being vacant, saying: "Omg pls this beautiful place can't just go to ruin..."

Another user seemed desperate to become the property's next owner, commenting: "Who owns it take money. I'll buy from you, sell my soul, idk.".
