Herbert Von Karajan, conductor
Staatskapelle Berlin
Recorded in May, 1944
in Haus des Rundfunks, Berlin
Herbert Von Karajan is as famous for his Beethoven Symphonies as any other conductor in history.
He recorded the nine symphonies numerous times in his career with various orchestras, and on several labels. This early one for Decca demonstrates how mature he was in his interpretations of Beethoven's music by the 1940s.
His Beethoven was distinctly his own. Although not as tidy as his later recordings with The Philharmonia and Berlin Philharmonic, it is a very fine performance.
