An area of hundreds of kilometres of eastern Australia received unprecedented rainfall levels on the first weekend and at the end of March 2022. In many areas the amount of rainwater during those rainy days each time equalled the usual yearly amount of rain. Flooding, landslides and devastation are widespread through the communities. Both coastal and elevated areas are heavily affected. All services and access to much of the region were cut off.
The videos and images are first impressions of the destruction after the rain eased off in early March.
An amazing community effort continues to help bring food, water and basic necessities to those effected, while restoring bridges, roads and many houses to some useable condition.
Update: Many areas that were just restored this months had the roads and bridges washed out once more. The continual rain has saturated the ground so much that landslides are frequent, making roads impassable and taking houses and living areas with them.
Many first and unprecedented negative impact records have been set this month by both of these weather events.
