It’s not a secret that I am big food fanatic. Therefore, I’m always in a search of good quality none expensive places that make food with a passion. Now that I and @juliuskaveckas
are travelling around Europe, we try to explore the local cuisine of every country we visit. At the moment we are in Greece. The food variety in Greece is so big. There is traditional food served in Taverna’s and grilled food which is more like fast food eaten on the go.
I’m going to do a little series to show the places we visit and the foods we try. Hope you enjoy it 😊
For breakfast we enjoyed traditional Cretan dishes at the Anopoli Taverna. The ingredients used in the taverna are all from the local farms or their own garden. The food is home cooked and so heartwarming. They also have comfortable, spacious rooms above the taverna with heating and hot shower. For those who want to climb to Pachnes they can organise a transfer to and from the hiking trail.

After leaving Anopoli village, we headed southeast to the island. The views along the coastline and the mountains was absolutely spectacular. In the late afternoon we arrived to Heraklion. We booked a lovely cosy apartment where we left our things and went out for some dinner. We returned back to our favourite family run restaurant Avli where we got to taste some of the most delicious Cretan dishes, like staka. Staka is a traditional Cretan dairy food made from slowly cooked, thickened cow's or goat's milk. It is similar to Greek yogurt, but has a richer, creamier consistency. Staka is often served with eggs, either scrambled or cooked into the staka itself. It is a staple food in Cretan cuisine, and is often served as a breakfast or snack food.
