The penetration of power electronic converter into the power grid is increasing at a noticeable rate, which causes the number of conventional synchronous generators (SG) to decrease. As a result, the power electronic converter dominated power systems is lacking system damping and inertia. Consequently, the renewable energy source (RES) based grids are now vulnerable to various transient instabilities.
Swing equation-based virtual inertia (VI) emerged as the solution to the problem. The researchers proposed different swing equations with different terminologies and methodologies to implement VI.
