There's big changes coming to FAFSA for 2024-2025 school year.
For lower income families, there's going to be easier aid eligibility and it will be a simpler process to receive aid.
For middle and high income families: the form is expected to be significantly shorter. And, it should be easier to import data from your tax return.
There's also a change in what assets count towards your child's aid eligibility. Small business owners and family farmers will now see that asset included in FAFSA. This could be reduced aid in the future.
If you have multiple children in college, you will no longer receive an increase in aid eligibility if you have 2 children in college at the same time.
Lastly, for divorced parents, the requirements on which parent must file the FAFSA is changing. Now, it will be the parent that is providing the most support for the child.
