Thank you to the person in the comments that told me about this little scene, you know who you are. ;)

I’m pretty sure that the fear that Connor shows after looking over the railing is one of death and not of heights. From the many runs I’ve attempted it seems that Connor will only show this sort of anxiety after multiple deaths within the same run. At least that’s what I can assume since I didn’t attempt every possible permutation of deaths ( These are the few that I did do : (a) only death by falling during the Hostage - result : no fear, (b) only death during the Bridge caused by Hank shooting Connor - result : no fear, (c) two deaths, first by falling during Hostage and second by being shot by Hank - result : no fear, (d) two deaths, first by falling during Hostage and second by failing a jump QTE during the Nest leading to a falling death, (e) five deaths, first by falling during Hostage, second by being shot during the Interrogation, third by vehicle, fourth by failing a QTE jump during the Nest and the fifth by a hostile Hank during the Bridge chapter - result : shows FEAR ).
